Cumberland County RCMP Investigates
Fatal Boating Incident

A fatal boating incident at Oak Island in the Northumberland Strait is under investigation by Cumberland County District RCMP, the second such incident in two days, resulting in three fatalities.
On June 30th, at approximately 10:40 p.m., RCMP, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a person being ejected from a boat. The investigation revealed that five people were on a vessel that ran aground near Oak Island, off the shore of Wallace Bay. One of the passengers, a 24-year-old Wallace man, was thrown from the vessel and sustained life-threatening injuries.
Fire services transported the man to the wharf in Wallace, where medical professionals made every effort to save his life, unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased. The operator of the boat, a 19-year-old Wallace Station man, is cooperating with authorities and has been released pending further investigation, allowing for a thorough review of the circumstances.
